A word from Joe

“Thanks so much for everything, Marvel!

There isn’t any way that I’d be able to put this charity together without all of the inspiration I’ve received throughout the years from all of your incredible comics, movies, tv shows, podcasts and the like.

And without everything that I’ve learned while devouring so much of your outstanding content across all levels- most especially these past few years.

You all are truly Marvel-ous. And I wish you all the best!”

Have a super heroic day!

Joe

Note about Photo Shown with this Section: This is a photo of Joe Hoffman (aka "Cowtown Joe"), Program Director of Super Heroes for Doa'a, with the incredibly talented Marvel Comics writer (and a righteous dude) Jason Aaron.

This photo was taken at a comic book signing event that Jason generously did as a benefit for Children's Mercy Hospital that took place at Elite Comics in Overland Park, Kansas (Joe's favorite place to buy Marvel comics).

Producing a Musical Saga About the Blues

Joe was working on producing a musical saga about the blues that he had written when Doa'a contacted him and asked for help with returning to the US so she could receive more medical treatment.

In order to focus on assisting Doa'a, Joe put the production of his sweet story on an indefinite hold.

Working with Congressman Moore

Joe had the honor of working with US Representative Dennis Moore as part of his election campaign teams and as a member of his Congressional staff. Serving with the Congressman in various capacities from 1998-2003.

Joe got to play a significant role in Dennis Moore's historic election to the United States House of Representatives in 1998 . And he also got to play key roles in Congressman Moore's re-election campaigns in 2000 and 2002.

Joe also served as a Constituent Services Aide in Congressman Moore's district office, working primarily as an Immigrations and State Department specialist.

During this time, Joe got to help out people from all over the world. Including people from Bosnia, Sierra Leone, India, Mexico, Japan, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Argentina, Nigeria, and Colombia.

And it was while working in Congressman Moore's office that Joe was able to help Elizabeth Alex (at the time, a new anchor with 41 News, a local tv station in the Kansas City metro) bring Doa'a to Kansas City from Palestine (when Doa'a was not yet two years old) so that she could receive much needed medical treatment that Doa'a was not able to obtain where she was living.

Note about Photo shown with this Section: This is a photo of Congressman Dennis Moore (shown in the center, wearing a suit) with members of his re-election campaign team.

This photo was taken at a campaign event that took place during his historic 2000 re-election campaign. Joe is shown on the far right of the photo (wearing the brown jacket).

Becoming Educated

Joe is an alumnus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) (Class of '96) in Kansas City, Missouri, where he earned with honors and distinction Bachelors of the Arts degrees in both Political Science and Spanish.

Joe is also an alumnus of Johnson County Community College (JCCC) (Class of '94) in Overland Park, Kansas, where he earned with honors an Associate of the Arts degree.

Also, during his college career, Joe had the opportunity to study the Spanish language and Mexican history and culture at la Universidad de las Americas (University of the Americas) in Puebla, Mexico (Fall Semester, 1992) and at  la Universidad Veracruzana (University of Veracruz) in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico (Summer Semester, 1994)

Joe is also an alumnus of Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, Kansas (Class of '90), and of St. Pius X Grade School in Mission, Kansas (Class of '86, school is no longer open).

It was while Joe was studying in grade school and high school that he learned the importance of becoming a global citizen and being of service to others.

Note about Photo shown with this Section: This is a photo Joe (on the far left with the long hair and tie dyed t-shirt) that was taken with his good friends George (sitting next to Joe, a fellow international student from Washington State in the US) and Jorge (a native of Tabasco, Mexico, who was Joe's roommate at the time).

This photo was taken inside a dorm room at la Universdad de las Americas (the University of the Americas) in Puebla, Mexico where Joe, George, and Jorge were all studying in 1992 when the photo was taken.
